MsCarolSings.com is a memorial tribute to our beloved wife and mother, Carol Giller Rubin, who passed away in 2024, after a long hospitalization.
Born in pre-chic Brooklyn, NY, in 1953, Carol graduated from Harpur College (now Binghamton University) in 1973, where she met her future husband, Jay, while working on the student newspaper The Colonial News (now Pipe Dream). Together, they embarked on a half-century journey, living in seven states—including Texas twice, 25 years apart—following educational and career opportunities (read: Jay’s). Along the way, they raised three extraordinary children, welcomed six adorable grandchildren, and cared for numerous dogs, ferrets, and other creatures of mostly blessed memory.
Carol had many gifts. She was a dedicated RN, working in hospitals, physician’s offices, home health agencies, and hospice care. She excelled at crafts—including knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and weaving—had a passion for gardening (especially weeding), and had an uncanny ability to assemble IKEA furniture. She loved musicals (Broadway and Hollywood) and could recount the plot and cast of every Twilight Zone episode and classic TCM film from years of joyful binge-watching.
But her greatest joy was music. Nearly everywhere she lived, Carol shared her love of Judaism and her special gift for connecting with young children by leading Tot Shabbats at JCC preschools and synagogues of all denominations. With her guitars, drums, and vast collection of animal puppets, she brought to life original songs, melodies from other Jewish artists she encountered at specialty camps, and cherished traditional Jewish tunes. Parents and grandparents often joined their children to welcome Shabbat and experience the ruach (spirit) together as a family.
Many of the children she taught now have children of their own. Many of the parents now have grandchildren of their own. MsCarolSings.com is especially for them—to pass on the love of Judaism, Shabbat, Jewish holidays, Israel, and more l’dor vador, from generation to generation.
Enjoy!
